Claire's First Cavity

I took Claire into the dentist to get a little cavity filled.  She was the star patient, cool, calm, collected, ready to go.  I had Tate with me and I was distracting him from the "shot" part of the procedure with games on my phone.  Once I was sure he was distracted, I turned to Claire only to see her in a full blown seizure.  I started freaking out.  The dentist and his assistant were just holding her saying nothing.  I had to call 911 and got Tate out of the room.  Eventually she came out of it and the paramedics were there.  I decided against the hospital after concluding that it was caused from the "shot".  Scott had come at the end and he drove me and the kids to hang out at my mom's work for a little bit so we didn't drive alone and we were right next to a hospital in case she had another one, but I was pretty sure she wouldn't.

Luckily, she was not aware of what happened, and just thought she was good at the dentist and that is how it goes when you go to the dentist.

So, she will be fine and hopefully going forward at the dentist we can not ever have this happen again.  Tate on the other hand, may be more scared of the dentist than he already is.  He kept saying that he did not like when Claire was going up and down.  I had to keep shushing him since Claire had no idea what he was even talking about.  The sweetest moment was on the way home when I was looking back to check on Claire (she was asleep) and Tate had his hand her quietly making sure she was ok.
{melt my heart}

She was worn out, of course, and crashed, but no nap for me-there was no way I could take my eyes off of her or leave her side.

After doing some research and talking to a dentist friend we figured out that seizures caused by the "shot" at the dentist are really rare.  Basically she most likely has a low threshold (hello she's 3 and little) to the medicine and the doctor may have approached or gone over that threshold(aka overdose) and/or was not careful and got the "shot" in a blood vessel.  Uggh.  We have terrible luck with dentists and will not be chancing it in the future.  It is only the best pediatric dentist for us, Dr. Quakenbush.
[this did not happen with him of course]

I'm just glad it's over and hope it does not ever happen again.

Tate Goes to the Dentist

I was sooooo nervous walking in to the dentist office today with Tate.
His last dental appointment (who knows how long ago) was nothing short of a disaster.

Tate kept saying he wanted to do it tomorrow instead and as we were walking in he said he felt like he was about to cry.

Oh no.

I paid and we waited.

We went in and got the laughing gas going right away and they showed him all of the tools they would be using.  Then came the shot.  The doctor kept saying he was putting the teeth to sleep and then he said that the assistant girl should sing to help them go to sleep.  So, Tate proceeds to sing "go to sleep go to sleep" as the dentist is giving him the shot!  He was so loopy the whole time is was hilarious.  When the dentist was "cleaning out the sugar bugs"  Tate was saying floss and flouride over and over.

I was extremely relieved that we were going to get the work done without having to go to a specialist.

And now for 2 more appointments, lets just hope they go just as well!
